Some people discover their passion late in life. Marcus Bu Helland was not one of them.

Growing up in Klepp, on the windswept coast of Jæren in southwestern Norway, Marcus developed an obsession that most teenagers his age couldn't relate to — the art of the timepiece. While others spent their free time on other things, Marcus spent his studying movements, dials, and the centuries-old craft of watchmaking. No formal training. No mentor. No school for it nearby.

He learned everything himself.

The Question That Started Everything

At 14 years old, Marcus asked himself a question that would change everything:

Why does luxury have to come from somewhere else?

Norway has some of the world's most breathtaking landscapes, a culture built on precision and hard work, and a design tradition rooted in clean lines and quiet confidence. Yet when it came to fine design, the world looked to Switzerland, Germany, Japan. Marcus believed Norway deserved its own voice in the world of design and horology.

So he built one.

The name itself carries duality — a nod to the French word for "button," a small thing that holds everything together — and to Marcus's own initials. Like the finest details on a guilloché dial, meaning is layered beneath the surface for those who look closely enough.

Today, BûTón is a registered Norwegian company — BûTón AS — led by a founder who personally oversees every aspect of design, identity, and the standard each watch must meet before it reaches your wrist. The passion that started in a bedroom in Klepp is the same passion that goes into every watch that leaves this brand.
